Which would be a better option, the Ascension Extended Harness or the Ascension Core Harness? I would want a dog harness that has been crash tested.

Unfortunately, due to the length difference, you will not be able to clip the small pouches to the connecting points of a M-L size extended harness. However, the opposite (using M-L size pouches on the small-size extended harness) would work.
